Dinosaur Provincial Park is located in the Grasslands region of southern Alberta, about 50 kilometres from the town of Brooks..

The Red Deer River flows through the park, and the river and many tributary streams have carved badlands in the soft clay and sandstone formations underlying this region of the Canadian prairies.

The park contains some of the world's most extensive dinosaur fossil fields, and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.
