Wood Buffalo National Park is the largest national park in North America. The boreal forests and plains protected by the park cover a total area of more than 44,800 square kilometres (17,300 square miles) in Alberta and the Northwest Territories in western Canada.

The park is home to the the world's largest herd of free roaming Wood Bison, and is also the last known nesting site of migratory whooping cranes.
